Can't change profile photo

Hi all,

Having an issue with changing my profile picture, I can upload photos without issue, but I can't choose a photo to use.. no photos appear for selection. I've attached a screenshot to illustrate the issue.

Hubzilla Version: 8.8.7
OS: Alpine Linux (Docker)

hey mate, thanks for the question. There sure is an updated image available; but please note that is the one that I'm having trouble with; so whether its bug free or not, is another thing

@Dale Hitchenor thanks, regarding your problem, i encountered something like this a long time ago and it was a file permission issue. i lacked ownership of the store folder. Changing it fixed it for me. you can try:

sudo chown -R www-data:www-data /var/www/html/hubzilla/
sudo chmod -R 755 /var/www/html/hubzilla/

Thanks. As far as I know, the store folder is outside of the hubzilla folder... will that change anything?

The store folder needs to be 755 and accessible by the web, since it stores images and avatars, and such.

If Hubzilla is located in /home/username/www then the store folder would be located at /home/username/www/store

The command to change the permissions is:

chmod -R 755 store

Hello again,

I've tried changing the permissions (both 750 and 755), and the behaviour still persists.
I've also double checked, and all the folders (including 'store') are inside /hubzilla
Luckily, thanks to some instruction, I've got the debug log. (I remove some hashes, just in case)

Let me know, if anyone has any ideas, (PS I have no idea what forum.statler,ws is, it isn't a place that I've visited:

@Dale Hitchenor You should get a list of albums in that modal dialogue.

To retrieve the list of albums, an ajax request is sent to the /embedphotos/albumlist API endpoint. This again should return a list of albums for the current channel, or null if the request is not successful.

Here's a few things you can check:

Do you see a POST request to the /embedphotos/albumlist endpoint in the network tab in the developer tools of your browser? If you do, what is the status code and content of the response to that request?
Are there any photo albums listed in the left sidebar if you visit the photos section (app) for your channel?
Turn on debug logging in the admin section of your hub, try the operation again and see if there's any useful output in the log.
Do you have the view_storage permission to your own channel? From what I can see it's either that, or that you don't have any albums defined that would cause this API to return an empty album list.

Ultimately, the modal did display the albums, but only once PNG files were uploaded; it appears that JPG files are not working/recognised? Did you have any suggestions regarding this?

@Dale Hitchenor Ah, yeah, sorry, could this be an issue with the docker image?

See #^https://hub.docker.com/_/php/ and scroll down to the PHP Core Extensions section. You may have to explicitly build and install gd in the image as in the example there.
